Grier Summer Art Portfolio Program
June 29 - July 18, 2008
An intensive 3-week program in the studio arts.
Cost: $3,000
Grier Summer offers an enjoyable three-week residential program open to high school women entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year who wish to broaden their understanding of the creative process. Emphasis is on the development of subject, light, color, line, form, and texture through drawing, painting, and printmaking.
The purpose of the program is to provide encouragement and necessary instruction as the student develops their work for their AP Studio Art portfolio. However, enrollment in an AP class is not mandatory for the summer course. Discussion on portfolio completion, admissions portfolios, and school requirements will help to channel the student's future search for college-level programs.
Space is limited with the student to teacher ratio of 9 to 1. Materials are included in the cost of the program.
The Art Building at Grier school is spacious open concept space flooded with natural light—even on rainy days. Situated in rural central Pennsylvania, the landscape lends itself to the study of space and color!

All campers at Grier Summer live in dormitory rooms according to age. Each dorm room houses two people, and there is a bathroom connecting every two rooms. The rooms include two beds, two dressers, two desks, and two closets. Two counseling staff are assigned to each unit of 6-8 campers. The counselors live in the hall, very close to the campers. Counselors are college-age women, and we sometimes employ exceptional high school seniors to assist the counselors.
In a three-week session at Grier Summer, each camper follows her individual activity schedule for 13 days of the session, including Saturdays and Sundays. On Thursdays, we have special events such as theme days with entertainers. On Mondays, campers attend field trips to local attractions.
Grier Summer is accredited by the American Camp Association, meeting over 200 standards for health and safety, site and facilities, administration, and camper programs. We have fewer than 100 campers at a time, and would love for you to become a member of our camp family.
