Allegheny Riding Camp
Founded in 1975, Allegheny Riding Camp was the first Grier Summer program. In order to assure a personalized experience for every camper, Allegheny Riding Camp accommodates fewer than 70 campers at a time. We maintain an excellent staff ratio to provide a caring atmosphere for everyone. Due to the popularity of Allegheny Riding Camp, we recommend early registration.

General Information

A happy camper and her horse.
Allegheny Riding Camp is a girls’ residential summer program located at the historic Grier School in Central Pennsylvania. We have a rich tradition of teaching girls self-confidence through English horsemanship. Our staff teach girls to realize their potential through horsemanship, friendship, and respect for animals.
All campers at Grier Summer live in dormitory rooms according to age. Each dorm room houses two people, and there is a bathroom connecting every two rooms. The rooms include two beds, two dressers, two desks, and two closets. Two counseling staff are assigned to each unit of 6-8 campers. The counselors live in the hall, very close to the campers. Counselors are college-age women, and we sometimes employ exceptional high school seniors to assist the counselors.
In a three-week session at Grier Summer, each camper follows her individual activity schedule for 13 days of the session, including Saturdays and Sundays. On Thursdays, we have special events such as theme days with entertainers. On Mondays, campers attend field trips to local attractions.
Grier Summer is accredited by the American Camp Association, meeting over 200 standards for health and safety, site and facilities, administration, and camper programs. We have fewer than 100 campers at a time, and would love for you to become a member of our camp family.
Campers
Campers range in age from 7 to 16 and come from of a variety of religious backgrounds and cultures from around the world. While most campers are from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New York, and New Jersey; last summer, campers represented 18 different states and 6 foreign countries.
