Grier Summer Camps for Girls

Rookie Camp

June 21 - 26, 2009

For girls aged 6 to 10 (First-time campers only)

Cost: $1,000

Rookie Camp is designed for campers aged 6-10 who have never been to Grier Summer before, excluding Mother-Daughter sessions. During Rookie Camp, campers follow our daily schedule for four consecutive days and depart on Friday morning.

We recognize that campers in this age range sometimes require extra attention and guidance when attending to daily tasks such as hygiene and organization. We never assign more than six campers to a unit of campers in this age group, allowing for a high degree of personalized attention. With two counselors per unit, and no "days off" for staff, we maintain a 1:3 staff-camper ratio in the dormitories during the Rookie Session.

We offer two options for Rookie Camp:  with riding and without riding.

Campers who elect to take horseback riding are grouped for lessons according to experience and ability. All riders are invited to participate in a Grier Summer horse show on Friday morning. Parents attend the horse show, and camper departure is before noon on Friday.  Riding campers select two other camp activities to fill their daily schedules. Campers who do not take riding lessons during the rookie session have the opportunity to choose five other camp activities. Activity choices typically include barn chores, sports, swimming, arts and crafts, games, dance, and theatre.

Grier Summer is accredited by the American Camp Association, meeting over 200 standards for health and safety, site and facilities, administration, and camper programs. We have fewer than 100 campers at a time, and would love for you to become a member of our camp family.
