Grier Summer Camps for Girls

Riding Lessons

Horseback Riding at Allegheny Riding Camp

On the first day of camp, campers are assessed for their riding ability and experience. The riding director schedules all campers for riding lessons in an appropriate level for each individual camper. To assure proper fit, campers are required to bring their own safety equipment, including a riding helmet and boots.

Riding LessonsClass size is limited to six campers, and two riding staff teach each class. Often, campers are exposed to different teaching methods and styles, and are assigned to ride more than one horse per day, allowing for more opportunities for learning.

All instruction is English style, mainly hunter/jumper with some dressage and cross country techniques. Beginners must demonstrate proficiency in basic horsemanship skills and balance before progressing to cantering or jumping.

All junior and senior campers are invited to participate in the Allegheny Riding Camp horse show at the end of each three-week session. Click here for horse show dates.
