Summer Jobs at Grier Summer
Looking for a summer job?
Grier Summer is currently hiring college-aged women (18 and over) for a variety of summer positions, including counselors and specialists in the areas of horseback riding (English), art, and dance. Benefits include training, dormitory housing, meals, and a very fun work atmosphere.
From the Director:
Thank you for your interest in summer jobs at Grier Summer. Working at a summer camp is a very demanding but fun and rewarding experience. Dates of employment for the 2008 season are from June (TBD) until August 8. This includes six days of staff training and orientation.
Application materials are enclosed. Upon receipt of your completed application, I will contact you for a phone interview if you appear to meet the necessary qualifications.
If you are applying for a riding instructor position, you must also submit a video (VHS or DVD) depicting your riding abilities and/or a video of a riding lesson you have taught. The video must be at least 10 minutes long, and it should be as current as possible.
Please take the application process seriously, and present yourself professionally. Here are some helpful hints for earning an interview:
1. Be neat and proofread your work. Spelling and grammar count. If you make careless mistakes on your application, we will wonder if you are likely to make careless mistakes when taking care of children or horses.
2. Obtain references from people other than friends or relatives. At least one should be from someone who has seen you work with children.
3. Be creative and specific in your lesson plan. Use diagrams or photos if applicable. Pretend you are working on a section of a camp staff “how-to” manual.
Please do not hesitate to call me at 814-684-3000 extension 113, if you have any questions. For more information about the camp program and the Grier School facilities, please continue your visit on this Web site or visit the Grier School Web site at www.grier.org.
Sincerely,
Helen Zientek
Camp Director
